Our History

Tioman Dive Centre has been operating for nearly 25 years. The dive centre started its journey in 1993 under the name Scuba Point. In early 2002, following a change in management and location, the operation became known as Tioman Dive Centre.

Initially managed by Dr Tarek Amin, known to his friends as Pako, Julian Hyde and Yeen Lee took over the operation in 2002.

In 2009, Katie Yewdall became the new owner and continued to develop the dive centre, with a strong focus on environmental awareness and responsible diving. In 2012, as Katie took a step back from the operation, Rosie took over the management.

In 2020, Tioman Dive Centre was acquired by Hannes. Following the change of ownership, TDC operated from Salang for a period before subsequently relocating to its current permanent location at Papaya Resort in Kampung Tekek.  

Our Current Location:

Today, Tioman Dive Centreis permanently based at Papaya Resort, Kampung Tekek, Tioman Island. From our current home in Tekek, we provide SSI training from beginner through professional levels, Try Scuba experiences, and leisure diving around Tioman Island.

In 2023, Saiful joined TDC as a Director, contributing to the continued development of the dive centre and helping further strengthen our existing standards.

We are committed to maintaining the highest standards in diving and ensuring that all applicable diving requirements are met or exceeded. With our experienced and dedicated team, our goal is to provide every diver with a safe, professional and memorable experience.

What We Focus On:

Diver Training : We provide a full range of SSI diver training, from the first experience underwater through to professional-level training, including Discovery Scuba experiences and Dive Master certification.

Leisure Diving: For certified divers, Tioman Island offers a wide variety of dive sites, each with its own characteristics. Close to the island’s villages are shallow reef dives with abundant marine life and a wide variety of corals. Further afield are deeper and more challenging rock and cavern sites.

Sharks and turtles are frequently encountered at many of Tioman’s dive sites, making the island an excellent destination for both beginners and experienced divers.

Environmental Awareness: We encourage all our divers, whether participating in a training course or a leisure dive, to treat the marine environment with respect.Tioman Island is home to a number of active environmental initiatives, including Reef Check and Cintai Tioman.

Tioman Dive Centre is a Reef Check training facility, where divers can gain their Reef Check EcoDiver Certification. We also support and host independent marine researchers from universities and research organisations working on projects around Tioman Island.
